Our
Heritage: Brothers of Christ
"God
chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be
the firstborn with many brothers..." (Rom. 8:29).
Jesus says, "Anyone who does God's will is my brother…"
(Mark 3:35)
"So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That
is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers."
(Heb. 2:11)
Covenant of The Brotherhood
Dear
Heavenly Father,
I will surrender my all to God - no matter what cost - so
that I can become more like Jesus Christ - my brother and King. I
will commit to find true, authentic, and honest friendships and
brotherhood with other men, for whom I would be willing to lay down
my life; so that we may be lights in a dark world. Help me engage
with my wife and for my children, as I fulfill my mission to know,
love and glorify Christ my King. Give me the desire to bring sin in
my life into the light and the heart to seek repentance and
forgiveness from you, and give me the courage to seek the
intervention and accountability of another brother for any sinful
behavior. I want to be fully devoted to being your instrument to
accomplish your purpose, and I desire to give up control and to
trust in your sovereign and divine purpose; and I make this
statement after having fully examined the cost.
In Jesus
name I pray, Amen.
I
______________________________________, made this covenant with my
God and the Brotherhood this _________ day of _______, 20_______.
"Make vows to the Lord your God, and fulfill them." (Psalm 76:11)
The Covenant of the Brotherhood is the type of prayer
and commitment you must make with Christ your King to
express your decision to be His disciple and brother.
Your prayers should include a covenant about one's desire for
absolute surrender to God - no
matter what cost. (see Luke 14:25-35, "don't
begin until you count the cost... But no one can become my disciple
without giving up everything for me.") Please don't take this
"no matter what cost" commitment lightly. God will hold us to it -
He will hold us accountable to our pledge to Him! There will be
times when the cost and burden of such a covenant feels too much to
bear. But it is a noble purpose for which you were uniquely created
- and you do not want to miss out! Second, it is important to
remember that we cannot fight the
battles alone.
Committing to unite with other "sold-out" disciples
for Kingdom causes is essential to be victorious in the battles that
we will face. Jesus modeled brotherhood by surrounding Himself with
12 other men. David had Jonathan, Moses had Aaron, Paul never
traveled without a companion, and Jesus sent his disciples out in "pairs."
So if you do not unite with other brothers in Christ - you will
fail! For Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a
special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of
one body, and we all belong to each other. Romans 12:4-5 (NLT) |
